Detroit Neighborhoods to Shop Around In

Buying a new home can be both exciting and terrifying, especially if its your first time as a homeowner. You want to find a house that fits all your qualifications on size, school district, closeness to work, and most importantly, the neighborhood it is in. Before you start shopping, compare local school ratings. Look in areas that fit your price range, and then think about shopping around for a low interest mortgage loan. Before you go through that whole process, Detroit Banking Rates has put together a list of some of the best Detroit neighborhoods for you to look at, including locations in the city and suburbs.

Downtown. While you may have heard some scary things about living in the city itself, downtown has actually been revitalized throughout the last several years. You can rent a newer apartment or look into buying a historic home. Just avoid the Highland Park area.

Indian Village. Although it only dates back to the early 20th century, Indian Village has some great historic homes. Its a great retirement spot, and its still in the city, so you are right next to all the restaurants and businesses you could ever need access to.

Parks. Brush, North Rosedale, and Comerica Park are all relatively good areas within the city to consider buying or renting. Plus, you get to live by a park!

Rochester Hills. This local city is located directly north of Detroit. The total population is under 70,000 and most people who live there commute into Detroit each day.

Macomb County. This county is located to the northeast of the city. Similarly to Rochester Hills, it is a smaller area with many people who commute to work in the city each day.

More local cities. Ferndale, Royal Oak, Troy, and Birmingham are all very local to the Detroit area, with the farthest being about 15 miles away from the city.  Livonia, Plymouth, New Boston, and Ann Arbor are slightly farther away, all requiring a half an hour or longer drive from Detroit.
